Will Clipman has conducted over one hundred full-length
Artist-in-Residence programs in elementary, middle, and high schools
throughout Arizona and nationally. He has been a Roster Artist-in-Residence
with the Arizona Commission on the Arts since 1980, and a Roster
Performing Artist with Young Audiences since 1989. He also works
as a freelance arts educator in a variety of settings, from community
colleges, libraries, and art galleries to senior centers, juvenile
and adult correctional centers, and hospitals. Will's philosophy
is that we are all potential artists by virtue of our natural
human creativity, and that the arts educator's role is to facilitate
the expression of that universal gift in an interdisciplinary,
multiple-intelligence approach that empowers every participant
to succeed on his/ her own terms. His educational programs include:
MYTHS & MASKS
A
hands-on, visual arts-intensive sequence of workshops, in which
participants make plaster bandage "lifecasts" of their faces,
write "'mythic persona poems" in the voices of imaginary characters,
paint their masks and decorate them with 3-D objects, and star
in a community showcase performance of their finished artwork
and poetry.
THE SOLAR SYSTEM OF
POETRY
A hands-on, language-intensive sequence of workshops,
in which participants master the "nine planets"' of poetic composition,
produce at least one original poem of their own based on guided
writing exercises, and have the opportunity to publish an anthology
of their work as well as showcase it in a coffeehouse-style reading.
RHYTHM-THE LANGUAGE
OF THE HEART
A hands-on, music-intensive series of workshops,
in which participants experiment with Will's "science of sound"'
toys and play his vast arsenal of world percussion instruments
as they explore the concepts of pattern recognition, rhythmic
entrainment, polyrhythm and musical composition, culminating in
a showcase performance of their very own "Planetary Players" Percussion
Ensemble.
Will is also an expert at designing custom workshops,
lecture-demonstrations, and full-length residencies to fit the
needs of any sponsor!
